Dobyns Sierra Series Casting Rods

This rod is very versatile. Soft tip with a solid back bone and good sensitivity. It’s been my go to chatterbait rod. Handles 3/8-1/2 jackhammers well.

I bought this SA 766FLIP flipping rod late March '23. I was really excited how light and sensitive it felt and was equally excited to retire my 33 year old Allstar flipping stick that was feeling a little to heavy in my old age. In late June '23 I treated myself to a day of flipping hydrilla and jerking bass. The rod was great until I swung the second six pounder into the boat and the rod snapped. My day was over and I headed to the house, being assured by my good fishing buddies that Dobyns would take care of the rod. The story didn't exactly end like that. After speaking with a rep at Dobyns, I was encouraged to send the rod in for inspection. After I spent $35 shipping cost I get a call telling me that the rod was stressed beyond it's capability and that the new rods have less graphite in them, making them lighter and more sensitive but not as strong as the old rods. Not covered by warranty but they would replace it for $60 + $30 shipping. So much for a LIFETIME WARRANTY. Their warranty should be termed a REPLACEMENT POLICY. Unhappy fisherman!

Great rod for a great price. Paired it up with a tatula elite and is perfect for spinner baits and buzzbaits. New favorite set up.

I love these rods so much that I have five of them. They are the most versatile rods because they have a softer tip. They are made very well, light, sensitive, balanced, and can cast a lure a mile! I can use these rods for almost anything, senkos, topwater, buzzbaits, spinnerbaits, crankbaits, chatterbaits, paddle tail swimbaits, and more. The more moderate action is especially good for any type of moving baits. It also keeps acrobatic jumping fish pinned. I'm fishing on the bank, so I need the most versatile rod I can get since I can't carry a rod for every single technique. This is where the Sierra shines! I wouldn't hesitate to buy one. For bottom contact baits where sensitivity is key, I like the Champion XP, but the Sierra is not a bad option either especially if you're on a budget. The 734 or 704 is the most versatile rod out of all of them. It is rated as a heavy, but it is more like a MH

I have the 7’ MH Sierra, or at least MH for this line because it is fairly limber and fishes like a Medium mod fast. I even took it out for squarebills on a spro Little John 50 and fished really well landing a few fish. I will primarily be using it for smaller Keitechs on a 3/16 oz ball jig and weightless Senkos. I have fished the former really well and the rod keeps fish pinned on that exposed single hook. I have not fished it with a weightless Senko much yet, my only concern is hookset with a 3/0 or 4/0 hook. Jury is still out on that. But I will also not shy away from treble hook presentations with this rod for sure. Overall great rod.
