The Mule Fishing Donkey Tail is a 2.8 inch soft plastic paddle tail swimbait. Designed by Discount Tackle Brand AmBASSador and ultra-light multispecies fishing guru Ethan Dhuyvetter (aka @onlineoutdoorsman) for his Mule Fishing Supply Co. tackle outfit, the Donkey Tail has a petite baitfish profile perfect for catching a wide range of species such as bass, crappie, bluegill, sunfish, trout or really any other small species chasing small bait.

Despite their small size, these baits are loaded with ingenuity. They're made from a super-stretchy, buoyant, and durable thermoplastic material so they stand-up on the bottom on a jig head and can easily be used to catch multiple fish. These baits are also incredibly versatile; you can swim them on a straight retrieve, fish them on a Ned rig, or even jig them vertically over schools of feeding fish. Additionally, for anglers who desire an even smaller profile, it's easy to cut the nose portion of the bait off and slim down your offering to a more finesse approach.

Ethan recommends pairing them with finesse mushroom and ball head jigs between 1/32 and 3/32 ounce. But you can also fish the Donkey Tail in numerous other fashions, such as a Texas rig, drop shot, or split shot rig.

Available in 6 colors, 8 baits per pack.

Excellent multi-species lure

Three UL fishing trips using the Donkeytail and Donkeytail Jr. lures later I can verify their effectiveness over several different fresh water fish species. I have caught largemouth bass, crappie and Rainbow Trout on each and every trip with these lures under cold water conditions. I highly recommend them- you won't be disappointed! The Dakota Sunrise color is a killer!

Hands down one of the best baits I’ve used they out last all others and simply catch fish!!

Perfect Morsel

I really like the donkey tails rigged on a light jig head. The are a perfect Ned rig trailer and the action is superb. I’ve really enjoyed rigging them on the megabass okashira screwheads. Bass love them and I catch plenty of crappie on them as well. The stretchy plastic is indestructible, I lose the jig and plastic before having to replace the paddle tail. The color options are plentiful, but my favorites are karma, GP, Dakota sunrise and black. I’m excited to see what else comes from mule fishing in the future!!!

Swirl! Fish on!

I can't believe what one can do with a hybrid of a Swimbait and a Ned rig! This bait can be swum at any speed even very slowly. It floats while bounced or dragged Ned rig style on the bottom looking like a tantalizing easy snack. It can be dead-sticked to flutter on its own to the bottom along the arc the line slack allows. It can be suspended and jigged. This super flexible hybrid action makes it easy to make instant adjustments and convincingly behave like a foraging fingerling that's curious, hungry, and timid. Plenty of techniques work, but one in particular stands out. After pretending to forage on the bottom with light bounces and drags and some very short fingerling size swims to the next forage area just a few feet away... if you see a swirl, or a circle of bubbles because bluegill are scrambling away from a moving bass, or even just have a sense it's being watched... then swim the Donkey Tail away like a scared and accelerating fingerling. We get outstanding results that way.

Paired with a 1/16 or 3/32 oz MuleFishing Mule Jig it's a bass magnet. I have one of every color and make an assorted set of two trays that slide into a single Mule Fishing zip lock bag. That and Mule Jigs are always in my waist pack.

Just do it and thank me later.
