    Great lure

4 stars because of the tail. 5 stars as far as action and fish catching performance The tail on the large one has some sort of chord inside so it doesn’t tear. The small one does not and it gets pulled off way too easily. Other than that it’s great and I use it all the time.

    It's not even fair...

Had some doubts after watching the YT vids on the Savage Gear swimming rat, and I love to put new lures to the test on some big old nasty toothed ill tempered Maine pike. This lure did not disappoint. One pike rolled up over another pike to take this yummy morsel out of the food chain. He foul hooked himself trying to be the first one to it, and a foul hooked fight is almost always fun. Threw it right back in after getting the other one free and it seems like the loser of the last fight had to see what all the fuss was about. He chomped down and ran out some line for a few but I got him in and found the lure and hook perfectly placed dead center a few inches into his mouth, which means he lined himself up for the bite. The bigger of the two was over 31". I threw this lure in between some lily patches and caught a bunch of largies hanging out in the pads waiting for something to make a swim to safety. Same thing fishing shallow past some reeds, they couldn't pass up such a helpless looking meal. Great action whether it's a stop and go retrieve or a panicked swim for it's life, this lure produces. Almost unfair how they can't resist. Had some fun letting it drift it in some current, it wiggled just enough on it's own to get some chomps on it. The tail took some damage but Savage Gear squared me away with a replacement tail in the package. Huge bonus for knowing what anglers will need and providing it to us. Highly recommend this lure for some great topwater action.

    Great action. Easily damaged

The action on this is great. Early morning favorite. The clear bill on the nose breaks at the least little tap also the back quarter is often grabbed and can be separated with a good bads. Suggestions would be a wire from front hook contact to a rear treble and upgrade the bill material. I bought 13 of these and will be my last 10 without an upgrade.

    RATS !!!

I had my doubts but my wife always falls for these types of lures. BUT, on a vacation on a northern MN lake she put this Savage Gear Rat on and pounded Pike and Bass, couldnt keep them off the thing. Fantastic topwater action, very different from anything else. Even rough water made no difference. Dont be afraid to order the larger sizes. You wont be sorry.
