Pre-Spawn Bass Fishing Tackle
As winter's chill thaws away and spring creeps in, bass look to regain the weight shed during the winter months and build up energy for the spawn. During this time period, they tend to hang out in transition areas in between the deepwater hideouts they spend the winter and the shallows where they will make their spawning beds. Such places include shoreline points adjacent to deep water, ledges, sharp breaks that lead to large flats, channels or depressions in creeks and coves, or any type of cover in deeper water located near shallow spawning. Jerkbaits, lipless crankbaits, spinnerbaits, ChatterBaits, umbrella rigs, and jigs are all effective on early-spring bass.
