My favorite all around braid

There are a couple of other more expensive braids that I like roughly as well, but they are for specific uses such as jigging. XBraid X9 is the one I want if I need to be able to do almost anything with a rod/reel combination. It cast very well, is beyond strong, and will fish topwater lures without sinking. I’ve got it on a bass rod and a surf rod and it handles saltwater and freshwater very well. It’s great on spinning and baitcasting reels. The weave on this line is smooth. It’s woven so tightly it doesn’t dig into baitcasting spools or flatten and twist. All three braided lines I now use have a center core. I’m sold on this feature and X9 is the most versatile example.

This line is dyed rather than being coated. This has several advantages and one disadvantage. Line free of silicon waxes and coatings casts and handles better. It’s usually not quite as abrasion resistant, however. That said, I haven’t cut this line surf casting where barnacles live.
