The Shimano Curado BFS is an 8.2:1 gear ratio low-profile casting reel designed with Bait Finesse System (or more commonly BFS) anglers in mind. BFS refers to an emerging freshwater finesse fishing technique from Japan that involves throwing super small and lightweight soft and hard baits (~ 1/64 to 1/8 ounce) on light-line casting tackle. Yet, because many casting reels are not designed to throw lures this light, more and more reel manufacturers have been producing low-profile baitcasters capable of effectively throwing lures this light. The new Curado BFS is one of the first Japanese BFS reels specifically designed for the North American market.

One of the ways the Curado BFS achieves this is through its Finesse Tune Brake (FTB) system, which reduces spool weight by moving the braking unit from the spool to the palm side of the reel. Additionally, FTB capitalizes on the cast's centrifugal force and the magnetic brakes automatically adjust to slow down the spool only when braking is needed. Fully adjustable, anglers can fine-tune the FTB with the external dial or by adding or removing individual magnets as needed.

The Curado BFS also has many of the same features and design points from existing members of the Curado line-up, including: a rigid Hagane body, X-Ship gear reinforcement, Super Free Spool, and Cross Carbon Drag. The Curado BFS also has a unique drag sound produced without a rattle/clicker that makes it easier for the angler to tell when a fish is pulling drag.

Overall, when paired with a dedicated BFS rod like the Dobyns Sierra Ultra Finesse, the resulting combination is a highly effective casting outfit that allows you to fish ultralight finesse baits with incredible accuracy and efficiency.

Curado BFS

Everything I hoped it would be. Even a bit more versatile that I expected.

Slick Reel

I been using it for panfish & trout lures and rigs. And for bass shaky head, ned rig, and drop shot. Doesn't hold much line. This is reel is awesome. Cast very small lures or rigs on a Dobyns ultralight rod no issues. Had no problem reeling a few 2.5 pounders. Glad I bought the BFS. Easy casting, light weight, has an excellent drag system. More line would be nice but not if I have to give up casting ultralight lures with ease. I would buy another.

Finally Shimano BFS is in The US

Very long awaited for BFS reel from the OG itself, Shimano finally releases their first BFS reel in America (And Europe).
This is their Entry Level BFS reel, but don't let me say Entry level fool you! It's not a cheap reel with nothing in it. In fact, it's LOADED with things.

It sports their FTB braking system, which is a dynamic magnetic braking system, which allows better control of over spooling, perfect for anglers who like to throw light lures on casting setup.

The reel also comes with a drag clicker, which is awesome for those who fish in the streams. Out of the box, this reel can cast down to 1/16th oz if spooled with thin line and at 100 ft or less.

However, this reel shines throwing a bit heavier lures than 1/16th. I recommend this reel to be put on a stiff L or ML for Ned Rigging applications. L for smaller Neds and ML for larger. You will find that this will also be amazing for smaller hardbaits such as cranks, surface poppers, even tiny finesse swimbaits on jig heads. The application for BFS is vast and anglers will find this reel VERY fun.

Enjoy the the reel... you will be addicted to BFS!
