Exciting new reel!

I have spent far too much time researching the most cost effective and durable reels for inshore or just rugged fishing trips. I don’t like having to worry about my gear as I continue to master this sport. Every thread I followed lead me to this reel and I am NOT disappointed in the least. Between light, tough, beautiful, fine tuned, smooth and comfortable, I am in love with this thing and I plan on switching my heavy rigs to the Diawa Saltist as well.

Very Nice for Surf Fishing

So far so good. I really like this reel. I use it for surf fishing. It’s holding up better than Daiwa BG and Penn Battle II reels. Soaking it in fresh water, drying, and storing in an open dry place helps. Reel Magic helps too.

overall it is a good investment, slightly on the smaller size, still durable. Would recommend.

I bought this reel (4000 size) a couple of months back. I only had been able to test it out on smaller fish. Sand trout, catfish, perch, and even puffer fish. I even caught a stingray with it. I have recently started catching red and black drum with this reel on a 9-ft surf rod. I use 40-lb braided line and roughly get 230 to 260 yd depending on what I use. It has a maz 17 lbs Drag but have yet to used max drag. I have caught 10 red and black drum over 23 inches with this reel. They have pulled a lot of drag and it has held up very well. The last fish I caught with it was a 37 and a half inch black drum. It put up a good fight for over 15 minutes. Highly recommend this reel. However I will say that I am planning on stepping up and getting the bigger size to have for bigger line, longer spooling, and stronger drag.

Saltist 6500

Great reel, smooth operation and sealed very well. Easily handles big fish from the surf.
Same size as the 8000 fits well with my 12’ surf rod.
