The Daiwa Saltist MQ® Spinning Reels are a new series of heavy-action saltwater reels made with a one-piece Monocoque (MQ) body. With the rugged and durable reputation of both the Daiwa brand and Saltist model name, these are durable, high-performance saltwater spinning reels you can depend on to get big offshore saltwater gamefish to the boat and in your icebox.

The primary feature of the Saltist MQ is the Monocoque body system, which does not require a body cover, instead, it uses an engine plate to screw directly to the body. Eliminating the need for screws to hold a body cover in place greatly improves the strength of the reel, bolsters the reel's water resistance, and allows a larger diameter drive gear to be installed. These reels also feature a proprietary Magsealed main shaft and Zaion Air Rotor for long-lasting smoothness and performance.

Available in a range of spools sizes from a compact 2500 size great for smaller species and lighter line applications all the way up to a hefty 20000 model that can go toe-to-toe with some of the largest predators out there.

This reel in 6000 size is similar to Penn Spinfisher V in 5500.

First larger Daiwa spinning reel I’ve bought. Has done great on surf and nearshore and has pulled in multiple slot to overslot/ bull redfish drag was smooth as butter the whole time. Reeling is smooth and crisp. Bail arm has a very crisp and secure sound when engaged after a cast. Aesthetically it looks pretty good too. Would buy another and probably will down the line to add to my surf rods.

In my opinion…

The best reel on the market… always smooth and dependable. Excellent drag. I’ve only ever used Diawa reels, but have fished with people that use Van Staal reels, and have watched them sending it away for service, while my Diawa keeps on fishing without any issue. I’d take the Diawa Saltist MQ 4000 over the comparable Van Stall every time.
